Pre covid talking with Nurses
ARU

I come from a medical family and am married to a doctor, our NHS staff do incredible work. It is our most precious public service and I passionately support the NHS and what a year its been.

I campaigned to have a medical school at here in Chelmsford at Anglia Ruskin University. It opened in September 2018, and more students are studying to become doctors, nurses and paramedics than ever before.

On overall spending for the NHS in 2020 - nationally core resource budgets will grow 3.5% on average per year in real terms between 2019-20 and 2021-22 to £147.1 billion. Core capital budgets will grow by £2.3 billion in cash terms compared to 2019-20, delivering a 13.4 per cent average real terms increase per year. Within this, Spending Review 2020 reconfirms the government’s historic long-term settlement for the NHS.

This provides a cash increase of £33.9 billion a year by 2023-24, taking the core NHS England budget from £114.6 billion in 2018-19 to £148.5 billion in 2023-24. This includes an increase in core funding of £6.3 billion in 2021-22." (Spending review, p.44)

In terms of additional winter funding, Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust has received an additional £4,838,000 funding to upgrade facilities for this winter. This is part of £300m across England for this purpose, out of a wider £1.5bn capital improvements budget announced over the summer.
